TYK to [personal profile] siglinde99 for introducing me to these awesome Sikh Canadian Bhangra Dancers! Check out their videos for their joyous dancing (and their charity fund-raising): Maritime Bhangra Group.

Here they are dancing at Parliament Hill in Ottawa to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday:

Holy crap how amazingly fit do you have to be to do that for SIX MINUTES? Such fun choreography, and what a joy to watch! Thank you for sharing this.

Cool video! And I love that they wore commemorative shirts with 150 on the back. Hee!

OMG! I love this! I love Bhangra music and this was so much fun to watch! They really look like they're having a good time.

I was introduced to Bhangra through fan vids, oddly enough--someone made a really good Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon vid to "Mundian To Bach Ke." I loved the song so much I made a Pandora station and have listened happily ever since. :-)

The vid is by a vidder named Absinthe; I can't find it online through a regular google search, and I'm not sure how else to search. I've gotten so involved with digitizing older vids that I haven't kept up with new ones unless I see them at cons!

It was on the Vividcon 2003 DVD. I seem to recall it was difficult to navigate, so I dubbed my favorite vids off onto a videotape to make them easier to watch, and then digitized them a while back. (I don't really have an easy way to rip vids from DVD. Yet. [grin])

So bear in mind, this is NOT as crisp and clean as the original, but it's still gorgeous. The clips seem to track with the music rather than with the words, and there are several moments that just make me stare in admiration. But I don't wanna spoil you. ;-)

Here's a link to download a copy: https://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/3rrabq

Enjoy! I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Also ... and this may be a silly question whose answer is "Of course!" - but just in case not - have you seen the Starsky & Hutch vid to "The Real Slim Shady"? (A HREF="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YegJjlfqGXE" target="blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YegJjlfqGXE) Let's just say there are some cameo appearances you would appreciate.

Found your comment while searching for "Vividcon"

FYI, Absinthe = Astolat + Hafital. (It was briefly common for co-vidders to adopt a new pseudonym but also super confusing. E.g. Luminosity + her daughter = The Shimmer Twins. I once had a whole conversation with someone thinking that we must be talking about two different vids to Southwest Voodoo).

The vid is posted on AO3 https://archiveofourown.org/works/4492113

Thank you so very much!!! I keep forgetting about AO3 as a place to find vids. It's great to have a gorgeous vid in gorgeous condition.

I'm glad to hear it was a "thing." When I was compiling a 1992 California Crew playlist (I've been digitizing old tapes), I ran into familiar names like "Icy Calm," new ones like "Buffalo Leg Scrapers," and puzzling ones like "Icy Leg Scrapers"! I figured that must be a portmanteau because they were working together--glad to have that practice confirmed!

But my goodness, doing it with a completely different pseud is seriously confusing.

Squee! A fellow fan of Bollywood and Bhangra music!!! *happy dance* The icon is from my favorite B'wood movie--at least, so far--there are so many more out there! I'm currently in the middle of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which has been referenced in so many *other* movies, I figured I had to watch it!

I'm out of town for the weekend, but when I get back I'll check on that vid. If it's not online, I can upload a copy from my computer. I can't remember who the vidder was, but it's an amazing vid.
