Fannish 50 Challenge 2024: Post # 21: "30 Below Fest" Headcanon Week

This week in the due South 30th Anniversary "30 Below Fest" one of the things being highlighted is headcanons. I'm sharing two of my Ray Kowalski headcanons here.

There are Kowalskis in my RL family and those Kowalskis are Jewish, so I headcanon that there are Jewish Kowalskis in RayK's family.

If you want to know my headcanon for how it is that Chicagoan Ray Kowalski can go undercover in Chicago as Ray Vecchio without any Chicagoans recognizing him as Ray Kowalski from an earlier life, you will find that in feroxargentea's 2019 dSC6D Big Bang fic "Long Way Down" on AO3. (BTW, this is one of my fave fics for about a bazillion reasons, the headcanon aspect being just one of those reasons.)

Note: for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, these two headcanons exist in separate 'verses.

Yeah, ferox's fic is a real commitment of time to read it...and I <3 it so much that I've read it more than once...but also, to make it easier for me to read such a long work, I had Joyce make a single-copy zine of it for me.

As for this weather -- brrr!!! -- I can't seem to stop shivering. And the rain is predicted to occur again and again for most of the week.

Well, it could be worse: it could be TORRENTIAL and flood both our basements. If there must be rain - and sometimes there must be - lets hope it is at a normal pace that doesn't flood us!

Looks like the rain will be steady but not torrential. I've gotten to the point, though, where I expect to have one or more basement floodings every year.

Do your gutters flow directly into your sewer system? I found that mine do and I think that's what causes the flooding and backing up of rainwater from the drain in my basement. I meant to get the gutters diverted last summer (to the front lawn), but I just had so much going on, I never got around to it. I think I'd better do that now. I'm hoping that if I do, I won't flood anymore - or not as much. A puddle around the laundry room drain would be better than "it's ankle deep across the entire basement floor". I know for you it's usually more than that, but I'm not used to ANY flooding, so even just ankle deep freaks me out. (At least it is not raw sewage... just rainwater!)

They did flow directly into the sewer system...and after all these years we just had them diverted to the front lawn about a month ago...now we'll see how much of a difference that might make.

Really?? Hey, can you email me the contact info of the contractor or company who diverted your gutters? I really need to get that done! Especially with "April showers” coming. 😕
