Alas Con.TXT

Alas, the lovely Pentagon City Residence Hotel in Arlington, VA will be closed permanently in September due to Covid-19 financial complications. What does this have to do with fandom, you may ask. This hotel has been the Con.TXT con hotel for several years. Con.TXT 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19 and rescheduled to 2021 -- with the closing of the hotel that was already set to be the July 2021 Con.TXT location, Con.TXT 2021 has now also been cancelled.

(And btw, this was one of my favorite con hotels.)

sad

Oh, that's sad. I'd never been (and it's been years since I've been to any convention at all), but… I dunno. Before I could blame my own laziness for not doing more fun things. Now that more fun things are disappearing altogether, I can't even pretend that "someday I'm gonna…"

I need something to fantasize about to look forward to and it's not going to be conventions or live theater or going out to dinner with friends for the foreseeable future.

My sympathies on losing one of your favorite con hotels.

Yeah, virtual cons don't sound like fun. All my favorite con memories involve random conversations in nearby restaurants or hanging out in someone's hotel room et cetra.

I knew my answer would get long, so I typed it up here under my fandom tag.

short version: a bunch of Star Trek and Xena Creation cons that kind of blur together, an Earth2 con, a Stargate con, and a few other random things
