Her point about 'google, just google*' (*or use your search engine of choice) is so so so true. The absolute basic type of questions people ask in mindboggling and infuriating. It's one thing if it's something complicated or difficult to spell but 95% of the time? Not at all. For example, I'm in a craft discord and at least once a day there's a 'what does X abbreviation mean?' or similar post and I'm like.. honey, just type that exact same message into any browser and you'll get your answer and a zillion vids demonstrating how to do it.
So true! (And I'm not gonna get started...at least not yet...on some of the questions I get when working at the Reference Department desk at the library.)
I imagine you have so, so many. My mother was a reference librarian for her whole career and the stories she'd tell us. You have to wonder how some people even survive.
Oh yeah, the 'I think it had a blue cover' or (described over the phone) 'it was about this thick' or the ever helpful 'it's a popular one, I think it was mentioned in the paper? Or was it on the tv?' Some people... sigh. :)
Yep, that's it. And get this: next month my library is running a reading contest where patrons are entered in a prize raffle based on how many books with a blue cover they read in the month of March. The contest is actually called "The Cover is Blue". I am not making this up. I have to supply the contest committee with a list of 20 adult nonfiction books that have a blue cover.
This is not only awesome but it's a catchy tune... like a serious earworm... walking around humming "I never thought the leopards would eat my face" kind of catchy, lol!
