In Memoriam: Gordon Pinsent

May his memory be a blessing.

Now I'm thinking of this scene of Gordon's in due South:
Bob: I've solved my last crime. I've caught my last man. No reason to stick around.
Benton: It's just I...I thought you were permanent.
Bob: Oh son, nothing's permanent.

I am too gutted by this to say anything more right now.

Every time I start trying to post something about RBG I get overwhelmed...to lose her at this point in history, and to lose her on Rosh Hashanah, and to lose her at all....but I cannot let these moments pass without speaking in her honor and to her memory:

זכר צדיקה לברכה
Zekher tzadika livrakha
May the memory of her righteousness be a blessing

יהי זכרה מהפכה
Yehi zichra mahapecha
May her memory be a revolution

Maybe later I can be coherent about this, but for now I just write his name here and cry.

(And like "Year 2020: if it's not one terrible loss it's another".)

Donnelly Rhodes was best known by my C6D friends for his roles in Battlestar Galactica and Da Vinci's Inquest -- and he made his professional debut on stage at the Stratford Theatre as Stanley Kowalski in Streetcar Named Desire (which should get a reaction from my dS friends...and TYK to [personal profile] verushka70 for pointing that out to me).

I just found out that Ursula K. LeGuin died yesterday. I am feeling sad that she is gone and appreciative for the life she lived.

Here is something she wrote about mortality in The Farthest Shore (Earthsea Cycle #3):

"You will die. You will not live forever. Nor will any man nor any thing. Nothing is immortal. But only to us is it given to know that we must die. And that is a great gift: the gift of selfhood. For we have only what we know we must lose, what we are willing to lose… That selfhood which is our torment, and our treasure, and our humanity, does not endure. It changes, it is gone, a wave on the sea. Would you have the sea grow still and the tides cease, to save one wave, to save yourself?”
