questions to Hamilton theatre-goers on my flist

Sooooo...I signed up to get access to advance ticket sales for when Hamilton comes to the Chicago Theatre. I got the notice today. First of all it said this thing I had not seen before, and I am wondering if it's specifically a Hamilthing or if it's now common in a realm of ticket sales that I simply haven't accessed before; it says: "We are a resale marketplace, not the ticket seller. Prices are set by third-party sellers." Secondly, I was of course expecting that tickets would be in the hundreds of dollars, but I wasn't expecting that per-ticket prices would start at over half-a-thousand and go up over two thousand. Wow, that's a more dedicated theatre-goer than I who is paying over two thousand. Did any of y'all pay less than $550 per ticket?

I read something about how only season ticket holders would get access to Hamilton tickets for the first season in San Francisco; maybe there is something like that happening in Chicago, which would make all available tickets resales. If not, perhaps there is a site for actual venue ticket sales that you could find?

I bought tickets through the official Ticketmaster site, and the way it's set up it shows both venue tickets and resales (which can be done through Ticketmaster). As it happened, the best deal (in terms of good seat and reasonable price) when I bought in early November (for early April) were resale tickets, and they were $450 each. I think less expensive venue tickets could be had, but there weren't any in comparable seating areas for comparable money (I wanted good seats, which I got).

Good luck. I have read that average ticket price is now $1200, which is a record.

TYK for the helpful response. I'm gonna start watching Ticketmaster instead of the site that sent me the advertisement for the $550 and up tickets. (With a fair amount of money already committed to TWO trips to Canada this year, I can't afford theatre tickets in the $500's.)
