Here I am, about to leave for my fourth fancon of the year, and I haven't blogged any comments about the other three yet. *con reportage fail*

Leaving in three days for the Con*Strict slash con in Nevada (and it's only the love of fandom that could get me to go to a desert in the summer).

Have fun at your convention! My next con isn't until Escapade and I'm kind of envious, not that I have the time right now or any time soon really. Still make sure to have fun and let us know how the convention went. I have never been to that one and would love to hear about it.

It's like 30 people at this point. Heavy overlap with Escapade, but much smaller.

devilc pimped me into this con when we were at Escapade together. Very small and informal -- 30 or under -- and I really like medium-to-small cons.

I really fail at fancon reportage -- there’s so much going on at the cons -- and then when I get home it's practically time to prepare for the next one.

I mod a due South panel at almost every con I attend, but right now I'm taking a little break from panel modding because the dSSS mods start work on the dSSS in about two weeks.

At the anime con you attended, was it a stay-over con or a for-the-day con?

This is a very small (30 or under) con with a goodly number of fen from Escapade in attendance.

Oh, I'm anything but a morning person. I accepted a last minute job fixing film sound for two nights. What time I get there depends on what time I leave work. I will probably be there for breakfast unless I need to pull over and have a nap.

What do you need to do to prepare modding a panel? That sounds really interesting!

The con I went to went on for several days, but I only spent one day there and went back very very late at night by train. I still remember goofing around on the platform in the very early morning with my friends. And (at least I think so) the stay-over cons aren‘t really a thing here in Europe? Idk but isn‘t it the case that in the US the organizers sort of arrange accomodation too? Here I think everyone chooses their own place to stay, but someone please correct me if I‘m wrong.

I certainly do know of stay-over cons in Europe, but it's also a matter of whether we are talking about for-profit cons or fan-run cons. The con comm (convention committee) of a fan-run con held at a hotel does get involved with arranging hotel accommodations for con attendees.

There's no one answer to "how does one prepare to mod a panel" because it depends on the nature of the panel topic and the personal presentation style of the mod or co-mods.

It would have been more accurate if I said "conventions run as a professional business venture" versus "fan-run conventions whose goal is not a business venture, but may need to make some profit just to cover the expense of running the con".
