Today is the official Canadian Thanksgiving Day, but every day is a good day to be thankful for the existence of Canada!

Date: 2025-10-15 03:34 am (UTC)But after Trump won here and started bullying basically all our former allies and trading partners, well: Canada banded together to screw the US back just as hard as it's trying to screw them. They're STILL not selling American alcohol in various provinces and exports of American spirits to Canada are still down 85%. And provinces have the autonomy to do what they want without Canadian federal government forcing them to stop. Yay, Canada!

Date: 2025-10-15 10:56 pm (UTC)I don't necessarily want it, but, as your friend, I am completely willing to let you vent. (In email, as you point out.) I've been to Florida a couple times. Other than the Keys, didn't really enjoy either the weather or the usual attractions, let alone the many different awful kinds of bugs & flying cockroaches.
(Yeah, yeah, palmetto bugs - which I say are flying cockroaches because THAT'S WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE!)
Politically... Let's just say I'm glad I live here & not there. Or in any red state, really. But I know Florida politicians do a good job of keeping seniors happy, at least depending on the county, because that gets them voted in repeatedly (kind of like how Larry Dominick/the Town of Cicero have all kinds of senior services at no cost, & will also absolutely help seniors get to polling places on election days... gnome sane?).

Date: 2025-10-16 04:41 am (UTC)Yeah. Just saying... I can totally relate. My bff from high school, that I've been thru thick & thin with... went the same route, and I'll just never understand it.

Date: 2025-10-17 05:36 am (UTC)That is so true. At least if we knew they were pod people, taken over by some aliens, it would make some sense! Alas, they're not.
I read an article, where the hell was it, the other day, about the one main thing that liberals, independents, and Republicans who voted for Trump all had in common. (It wasn't a new article, iirc... but might have been an update of an older article? I'll try to find it.) But anyway, it wasn't an issue - it was a personal quality (I'd call it a bug, not a feature): authoritarian inclinations.
That does fit my friend M---. Definitely. Does that fit your friend, too?
