Alas Con.TXT

Alas, the lovely Pentagon City Residence Hotel in Arlington, VA will be closed permanently in September due to Covid-19 financial complications. What does this have to do with fandom, you may ask. This hotel has been the Con.TXT con hotel for several years. Con.TXT 2020 was cancelled due to Covid-19 and rescheduled to 2021 -- with the closing of the hotel that was already set to be the July 2021 Con.TXT location, Con.TXT 2021 has now also been cancelled.

(And btw, this was one of my favorite con hotels.)

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that, dear. I've always been too broke to go to cons, but the closing of a hotel (and the subsequent cancellation of a long-standing convention) really sucks.

Even if cons weren't cancelled I would have trouble going anywhere out-of-state right now. I have a full-time job and we now have travel restrictions -- if we go out-of-state we have to then stay home for two weeks upon return and we have to use our accrued vacation time for the two week of staying home -- and if we don't have enough accrued vacation time to cover the trip PLUS staying home from work for two weeks upon return we just can't go out-of-state at all.

Yikes, those are rough. I can kind of see the logic, but that's still rough.
