This post actually has nothing to do with Welcome to Night Vale other than that famous quotation "and now the weather". It is, however, about the weather...and it's about one of those instances where you DO NOT want to be number one on the list: the Chicagoland area just had a record-breaking amount of rain and flooding, almost 9 inches over a period of less than 24 hours. The National Weather Service has posted a list of rainfall totals for 75 Chicago neighborhoods and Chicago suburbs. The suburb where I live is number one on the list with the highest rainfall total, 8.96 inches over the course of less than one day.
I will be spending today cleaning out and disinfecting my basement that flooded to a depth of just below knee-deep.
(And this is on a day when I had intended to spend most of the day writing my fic for the Con*Strict eZine deadline. I'm not looking for sympathy about the flooding -- I am all too aware of those who have had worse and I don't want to draw concern away from them -- but if anyone is so inclined to provide a bit of cheerleading for my fic-writing later today, that is something I would appreciate.)
