I try to be all squee and no rant in my LJ and DW, but after months of this inability to post C6DVD pics -- yes, that's right, pics from Valentine's Day 2015 -- I'm going to have a moment's rant.

There's a C6DVD creation of mine that I want to post to AO3 and there's a card from Turnbull to Fraser that turned up on my desk at work about which I want to blog in my LJ and DW...but I have been unable to get the pics off my smartphone no matter how many icons I click or how many resets I try.

Today I took my phone to my service provider's headquarters, and they told me the way for me to access the pics is to buy a new phone and take the memory card out of my current phone and put it in the new phone.

*facepalm*

Can you take the memory card out of your phone and put it into a laptop computer or a card reader?

What kind of phone do you have? (Not provider, but brand type)?

You might need a card reader adapter for your computer, but it should be doable.

You can also try asking on forums specifically for your phone.

Good luck!

That absolutely sucks! I'd offer tech help, but I'd need to have the phone, like, in my hand to really help. You've probably already tried emailing the pics to yourself, right? How about text or multimedia message to your email address? Sometimes that works... Let me know.
ETA: Sorry, I forgot you don't have text messaging on your phone. Is that something you literally CAN'T do with your service contract, or is it just that they might charge you for the text/multimedia messages?

Also, you can try calling technical support of your cell provider. Call the customer service line first, then be sure to choose tech support.

I don't believe what the person at the cell store told you... But, then, they probably didn't know how to troubleshoot. Did *they* call tech support while you were there??

Well, I had a 2.2 Android phone a few years ago and iirc I had a similar problem. I couldn't email the pics to myself as attachments (you've tried that, right? and then open the email from your laptop). But I *could* attach the pics as attachments to a text message (which gets converted to a multimedia message). You can send text messages to your email from your phone, iirc. With my old phone, the problem was that the memory on my phone was full, but I doubt think you have that problem.

But the card reader solution only works if you have a MicroSD memory card in your smartphone. If you don't, and you only have the phone's internal SIM card (that all phones have), I don't know if any card reader can read phone SIMs... usually only the cell stores have those, to transfer your contacts from old phone to new phone.

What model phone is it, and what cell provider? I'll try to see if there are phone forums that have this problem listed. You're probably not the only person who had this problem...

I have a newish smartphone (purchased this year) and it won't talk to my computer because I'm still running Windows XP on my computer.

So, I bought a micro SD card reader (this one, for $2.99 at Office Depot). I pull the micro SD card out of my phone, put it into the card reader, then plug it into my computer's USB port like it's a regular flash drive. Then I can open up the files on the SD Card and download things from my computer.

The other thing is that you want to have an app on your phone that allows you to browse, copy and move files. What comes as stock on the phone won't cut it, because it won't let you see all the files on your phone. Try something like Astro File Manager, which lets you manipulate the files on your phone.
