Happy 30th Canadian Anniversary, Hard Core Logo !

On this day 30 years ago -- September 20, 1996 -- the Canadian music mockumentary Hard Core Logo had its Canadian premiere at Cinefest Sudbury. (Its international premiere was in May of 1996 at the Cannes Film Festival and its general theatrical release was on October 25, 1996.)

I'd forgotten about the 'making of' book - I believe I read that too. a circle of us locally were massive fans, holding watch parties, majorly getting into Headstones, and sharing the related books

Ah, those back-in-the-day watch parties! I hosted my first HCL watch party at Bitchin' Party 2012. I don't remember who-all was there but I do know I'd see you at BP so maybe you were one of them. I only remember that I was new to running a watch party in a hotel room and keerawa and helens78 helped me with the tech.

It was a memorable experience for all...and I always have an evil kind of fun watching the fen who are watching HCL for the first time.

I can't believe it's been 30 years. But then again I can. I first bought HCL on VHS tape. Then I bought it again on DVD. I don't know how many times I've watched it. I lost count. Joe/Billy Forever.

Yes, so was my first copy of Curtis's Charm. You could still get VHS tapes back then. People were still doing VHS tape trees. HCL came out during CKRs time on dS, during the original broadcast.

It did not come out (theatrically) in the US, but it was released in Canada. And the minute it was available for purchase (in Canada), people in dS F/K fandom (including me, but later for me - not immediately on release) bought it. Some of them shared it online too... which is why I still have an AVI video file of it, somewhere in my cloud space. ❤️

Well, I did catch the tail-end of the "VHS tape tree era". I have all of dS on VHS tape that was mailed to me (but I also have two copies of it on DVD, one English and one French).

I can't forget that I first saw it when a fan friend showed me it along with For Those Who Hunt the Wounded Down and a dark movie featuring David Thewlis. That was one bleak afternoon....

I related hard to the band stuff in HCL, and I lived in a similar area with similar people to For Those Who Hunt the Wounded Down for a few years.

Yikes! HCL and For Those Who Hunt the Wounded Down would already make for a helluva double feature...and I'm wondering if that dark David Thewlis movie was The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

Yes, dark but not TBinSP dark. (I'm glad it wasn't TBinSP...I have a lot of problems with that one.)
